Family and Children’s Services staff are looking to get more people on board for their “Adopt a Family” Christmas program.
With the holiday season upon us, many are focused on buying the perfect gift for the special someone in their life, but shopping for Christmas presents or a holiday meal is tough for some families.
Jessica Hayes tries to fulfill the vacation wishes of families in need through her Adopt-A-Family vacation relief program.
“Most of our families who need help, that’s the only help they get,” Hayes said. “They can’t afford to buy their own gifts for their own family or their own children.”
Through this program, people can help a family by donating things they need or want to make their Christmas special.
“It’s such a gift that we can give to those customers who can’t get anything and especially with high prices with food and toys and things like that, everything helps, just to bring them a little smile,” Hayes said.
Adopt-A-Family helps more than 1,500 people, and Hayes says community support means a lot.
It’s really cool to see people sign up and want to give and really show up for their community and help someone in need,” Hayes said.
For those interested in participating in the project, it is not too late to register.
