Pollinators like bees, butterflies, and moths help put fruits and vegetables on our plates and keep Earth’s ecosystem functioning. In fact, one out of every three bites of food we eat comes from our winged farmers. In honor of all that pollinators do for us, the Edwardsville Children’s Museum (ECM) has planned a day to celebrate them.

On Saturday, October 15, families are invited to a free day of fun at ECM during its “Bee-Cause It Matters” pollinator party sponsored by the City of Edwardsville. The museum will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a variety of pollinator-themed activities available from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. as well as stories read every half hour by special guest, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Children will also receive a free seed pack to start their own pollinator garden at home.

“Pollinators are essential to the health of our planet, but their populations are declining because their foraging and nesting habitats are being erased,” said Kristen Fries, executive director of ECM. “By showing children how they can play a part in protecting them by planting a few native flowers, they will develop a lifelong appreciation for these important insects.”

To learn more about Pollinator Day, visit the ECM website at www.edwardsville children’s museum.org/seasonal-programs or call the Museum at 618-692-2094.

The Edwardsville Children’s Museum is committed to stimulating curiosity and cultivating learning in the age of wonder. ECM believes that children of all ages learn through discovery and hands-on play. All exhibits and programs are designed to nurture happy and curious learners from six months to 60 years old.

Families are invited to explore ECM’s exhibits, check out its seasonal programs or become members for fun learning all year round. For more information, visit www.edwardsvillechildrensmuseum.org.
