In response to thunderous investigative findings this week into allegations of misconduct and cover-up within the Portland Thorns, at least two sponsors of Thorns and Timbers have announced that they have ended their financial partnerships with the organizations – or were planning to do so soon.
In what may be the boldest statement ever made by a team sponsor, Union Wine Company said Friday that the allegations of “harassment and inaction by senior management, described in the report, are all simply unacceptable”. The Tualatin-based company went on to say that while it supports the players, it can “no longer participate as an official sponsor of either team” after four years of paying to have its name displayed. in the football stadium and selling wine there.
