Crapo and Risch back bill to protect parental rights | U.S. Senator Mike Crapo of Idaho

Washington DC–U.S. Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch (both R-Idaho) joined in the co-sponsorship of S. 4892, the Parents’ Rights in the Education and Care of Their Children Act (PROTECT), which would protect parental rights by preventing schools from withholding information about students’ gender from their parents.

“Parents have the right to be actively involved in the lives of their children” Crapo said. “Children deserve an education free from harmful social ideologies, and the federal government should provide no funding to schools that deny parents the right to access crucial information about their child’s well-being.”

“Open and transparent communication between schools and parents is essential for the development, education and well-being of our children”, Risch said. “Educational environments that hide critical information from parents can and will do more harm than good.”

The PROTECT Kids Act would limit federal funding to any elementary or middle school that allows students to change their pronouns, gender markers, or gender-based amenities (including locker rooms and bathrooms) without their parents’ consent. parents. The bill is supported by Parents Defending Education Action and Independent Women’s Voice.
