East Devon Brownies clean up their act for children in need

The 1st Colyton Brownies are hosting a sponsored litter pick in aid of the BBC Children in Need and Girlguiding fundraising appeal.

The sponsored rubbish selection will take place at the playing fields on Coly Road on Saturday 12 November. Various local youth groups are invited to join them.

With just seven members, they may be few in number, but they’re determined to make a big difference in their trash-strewn park.

Food wrappers, drink bottles and pizza boxes were among the unfortunate discoveries the girls made at the Peace Memorial Playing Fields in Colyton during a recent walk through town.

Brown Owl Karen Rattew said: “The girls were so surprised at the amount of litter there was in the park which really saddened them.

“There was so much plastic there that the girls knew it would never degrade and they were worried about the impact on wildlife. They are proud of where they live and really wanted to do something about it. on this subject.

Committed to helping Colyton clean up his act, Brownie executives decided combining litter picking with their annual fundraising for the BBC Children in Need and Girlguiding appeal would be the perfect match.

Karen added, “We always fundraise for Children in Need and Girlguiding because it’s really important for girls to give back and it’s a lot of fun,” added Karen. “Brownies are about helping others, so it seemed like a good idea to combine the two things that are both about doing things for the greater good.”

Now in the third year of the BBC Children in Need and Girlguiding partnership. The money raised will be split equally between BBC Children in Need and Girlguiding UK.
