FC Barcelona will use popular singer Drake’s logo on their shirts for Sunday’s game against Real Madrid in El Clasico.
The move comes as part of Drake’s celebration of surpassing 50 billion streams on Spotify, who signed a four-year shirt sponsorship deal with Barca in May this year.
This type of swap on the front of the Blaugrana shirt, replacing the Spotify logo with that of famous artists, will be done more as the 2022/2023 season progresses.
As part of a move to recognize the Canadiens’ impressive feat, Xavi Hernandez’s first-team squad are set to don a special version of the shirt during their pre-match warm-up that features the name ‘DRAKE’ and number. “50” on the back. .
In a statement On Barca’s website to mark the move, VP of Marketing Juli Guiu said the Catalans’ alliance with Spotify ‘goes beyond a mere business relationship’.
“As we have said many times, this is a strategic relationship through which we seek to bring together two worlds that can evoke emotion, namely music and football,” she added.
“This initiative is yet another example of that drive and the innovative spirit of our collaboration. For the first time in our history, we are replacing our main partner’s name on the front of the jersey with an internationally renowned artist in Drake, winner of 4 Grammy Awards and record holder in different categories, such as being the first artist to accumulate 50 billion streams on Spotify.
“This initiative shows our potential to become a unique platform to deliver experiences that bring us closer to our fans while reaching new audiences around the world.”
Marc Hazan, who is Spotify’s Vice President of Partnerships, explained how the streaming platform “has always said that we wanted this partnership to be a celebration of fans, gamers and artists on the world stage”.
“And there’s no bigger stage than El Clasico,” added Hazan.
Barcelona head to the biggest club game in La Liga football but draw level with their rivals on 22 points after making their best start to the domestic season in five years.
