Final list of sponsor exemptions for golf events – Bernews

Tournament officials have released the full and final list of sponsor exemptions for the Bermuda Butterfield Championship 2022 at the Port Royal Golf Course, October 27-30.

A spokesperson said: “John Daly, James Nicholas, Akshay Bhatia, Caleb Surratt, Aaron Jarvis and Palmer Jackson were among those named to compete in the tournament in Bermuda this week.

“Nicholas, Bhatia, Surratt, Jarvis and Jackson will join previously announced sponsor exemptions Kim Swan, Michael Sims, Jarryd Dillas and Nick Jones. Swan, a Bermuda golf icon, was the first sponsor exemption granted this year. Sims , Dillas and Jones secured their place in the local qualifier which took place on October 4 and 5 at the Port Royal Golf Course.

“Over 30 years ago, Daly burst into the world of golf. As the ninth and final substitute for the 1991 PGA Championship, the 25-year-old rookie came out and won the golf tournament. He went on to win the 1995 British Open at St. Andrews. One of the most celebrated athletes in professional sports, the two-time major champion has five PGA TOUR titles and one PGA Tour Champions title, the 2017 Insperity Invitational.

“Nicholas is a multi-talented athlete who has been drafted three times by the New York State High School Hockey Coaches Association. He played collegiate golf at Yale, winning five championship events. NCAA, including 2019 Ivy League Championship Medalist honors, twice named Ivy League Player of the Year, and earned Korn Ferry Tour status in 2020.

“Bhatia is a standout amateur who won ten junior titles and rose to the top five in the World Amateur Golf Rankings before turning professional at age 17. He was named the 2018 AJGA Rolex Player of the Year and represented the United States at the 2019 Walker Cup, posting a 2-1-0 record in the U.S. victory.At 19, he won the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic 2022 at Sandals Emerald Bay.

“Surratt reached the world No. 1 amateur ranking earlier in 2022. He currently plays at the University of Tennessee. He won the Maui Jim Intercollegiate in his first career start for the Volunteers. Prior to college, Surratt won the 2021 PGA Junior Championship, 2021 Western Junior Championship, 2021 Bobby Chapman Invitational and 2021 Terra Cotta Amateur.

“Jarvis has already reached several milestones in his career. With his one-shot win at the 2022 Latin American Amateur Championship [LAAC], the 19-year-old became the first player from the Cayman Islands to win an LAAC title and, as a result, became the first competitor from his home country to compete in the Masters. He is also the first Caymanian to make the cut at the Open. He is currently attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas [UNLV].

“Jackson, currently a senior at the University of Notre Dame, has posted six top-ten finishes this year. He was the Jones Cup Invitational champion and competed in the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup.

“The Butterfield Bermuda Championship will implement the PGA Tour Junior Initiative this year. Youth 15 and under are admitted to the tournament grounds free of charge with a ticketed adult [this does not include hospitality spaces].”
