Fort Pierce: Volunteers inaugurate the reconstruction of the children’s park

Fort Pierce – Tuesday, October 11, 2022: As the sun rose over Sunrise City on Tuesday morning, a group of volunteers got to work rebuilding Kid’s Park in Jaycee Park.

This is a unique partnership between the city, the Sunrise Kiwanis Club, and public and private volunteers who have come together to restore a favorite Fort Pierce destination for parents and their children.

Nick Mimms is the city manager of Fort Pierce. “The City of Fort Pierce fully supports this project. This will help children and families. And it will be the first all-inclusive playground in the city of Fort Pierce,” Mimms said.

An all-inclusive playground is a play area that allows children of all ages and abilities to play together, with no designated area for children with disabilities.
City Commissioner Jeremiah Johnson said the Commission “came together under the motto ‘One Fort Pierce,’ bringing together visionary leadership and the community. And we’re just here to say thank you to our volunteers, thank you Sunrise.” Kiwanis, thank you Home Depot, all of our sponsors.

The park was in poor condition when the Fort Pierce City Commission began planning 18 months ago…the Sunrise Kiwanis Club came up with the idea of involving volunteers to make it a community investment and save money. Club member Tom Perona is Fort Pierce City Commissioner and Project Manager. “It was deplorable. The city of Fort Pierce stepped up and said we would replace it, so every child could have the same experience.

The hope is to have the children’s park completed by Sunday. Other volunteers are welcome throughout this week.
