George Harrison’s attempt to sponsor the Indy 500’s only woman was rejected

George Harrison was known to be generous with his money, and in the 1970s tried to send it to someone unexpected: an Indy 500 driver. Harrison was a lifelong fan of the race automobile, even writing a song for his Formula 1 driver friends. In 1978, driver Janet Guthrie prepared to race the Indy 500 for the second time. Harrison attempted to send her money to sponsor her, but was politely told he couldn’t anymore.
