Glovely stuff – sponsorship deal is great except for keeper Jack

An aspiring young goalkeeper gets the kid’s glove treatment to help him achieve his footballing dreams.

City fan Jack Mann, 11, is the goalscorer for East Manchester Junior League side Springhead Dynamites.

But keeping Dynamites on track for a third consecutive promotion has been a costly endeavor for proud dad Colm.

Jack, from Greenfield, who has had trials with Football League sides Bolton and Rochdale, needs new gloves every six to eight weeks. At £40 a pair, pounds rose faster than points.

Now a Saddleworth-based company has stepped in with a crucial save for the former Saddleworth 3Ds player.

Brothers Jamie – a Dynamites coach – and Shaw Construction’s Simon Shaw have agreed to sponsor Jack’s gloves for the entire season.

“Jack is doing great and he was the coaches player of the season last season,” Colm said.

“But training three times a week in addition to playing games means his gloves are beaten very quickly. He also attends Paul Oakes goalkeeping school twice a week.

“So it’s a great gesture and we both really appreciate it. Some teams don’t have a dedicated goalkeeper, but Jack always wanted to be a goalkeeper.

“Actually, I think it’s a lonely position. If a team wins you might not have much to do, but if you lose no one remembers the 15 saves you made, that’s the one you let go.

“But Jack really likes it. He is quite fearless and known for his penalty saves. Supporting City, he is a huge Ederson fan and he wants to progress and hopefully have a successful football career.
