The HARD WORKING emergency department staff at Grange University Hospital had great reason to celebrate when they were honored at the sixth annual South Wales Health & Care Awards.
Employees won the Health Care Team award from the hands of Nicola Prygodzicz, CEO of category sponsors Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, at the event hosted by Rougemont School in Newport.
The success of Cwmbran Hospital at the ceremony, which had the University of South Wales as its main funder, comes almost two years after it opened to the public.
It hasn’t been easy for the hospital since then, with the health board being criticized for wait times at The Grange’s emergency department well past the four-hour target.
Wider issues around patient flow and discharge from hospitals have been cited by senior health board officials as contributing factors to the problems.
But despite such pressures, the A&E team valiantly stuck to their task and continue to work tirelessly for those in need of urgent treatment.
The Grange’s team award was one of 16 awards presented on the evening, as heroes of the health and care industry were recognized by family, friends and colleagues across the sector .
