Monroe Exchange Club will once again offer a Flag Field of Honor memorial this Veterans Day.
From Nov. 5-12, 500 American flags will be displayed next to River Raisin Battlefield State Park, located at the corner of N. Dixie Highway and E. Elm Avenue. The display will be illuminated at night.
The flags honor veterans and current service members. Area residents and businesses can sponsor a flag in honor or in memory of a loved one.
An official unveiling of the Flag Field of Honor will take place at 1:00 p.m. on November 5. A special ceremony honoring veterans will be held at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at the battlefield. The ceremony will follow Monroe’s Veterans Day Parade.
“The Monroe Exchange Club proudly presents a program that will graphically and dramatically demonstrate our collective respect for those who serve or have served in our nation’s military,” the club said in a statement.
Businesses and individuals are encouraged to support the flag’s field of honor by honoring their loved ones who have served or are serving in the military. A flag in display can be sponsored for $35. Flags can be picked up or posted on November 13; the flags will include a certificate of recognition. Additional sponsorship levels are available.
Donations from the sale of the American flags will be used to support charities funded by the Monroe Exchange Club.
The Monroe Exchange Club celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. Exchange Club is one of the oldest service clubs in the nation and represents Americanism, community service, youth activities, and child abuse prevention.
