New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal posted a WhatsApp number on Saturday and called on people to sponsor the salaries of trainers who provide free yoga classes under the government’s ‘Dilli Ki Yogshala’ scheme.
“A yoga teacher earns a salary of ₹15,000. Please contact us on WhatsApp on 7277972779 to advise how many teacher salaries you would like to support. Make the check payable to the teacher only. Some people are willing to bear the full cost, but I think it would be more plausible for all Delhi residents to come forward and join our efforts to keep yoga classes going. We planned to provide free yoga training to 17,000 people in Delhi, but LG and BJP didn’t even allow 17,000 people to learn yoga for free. We have decided that together with the people of Delhi, we will not allow yoga classes to stop under any circumstances. I will arrange the funds any way I can, but the trainers will be paid,” Kejriwal told a news conference.
The Dilli ki Yogshala scheme was announced by Chief Minister Kejriwal on 13th December 2021 to provide free yoga classes to the citizens of Delhi. According to the government until October 31 this year, nearly 17,000 people were learning yoga for free at 600 venues, including public parks, across the city.
The yoga classes program had emerged as another flashpoint between the lieutenant governor and the Delhi government, with the latter alleging that the LG had not approved the continuation of the programme. LG office officials said earlier that they had not received any filings requesting the extension of the program.
Kejriwal alleged on Saturday that LG VK Saxena and the BJP were harming citizens by stopping free tuition. “I was saddened, when a few days ago, LG and BJP tried to stop the Yoga classes. These classes were organized to improve the health of our citizens and mainly help those who were facing hardships. post-Covid complications.More than 17,000 people have so far benefited from these courses. The BJP has tried to wrest this opportunity from the 17,000 people currently enrolled in this program. The salaries of these yoga teachers have been withheld and we asked them not to take any more classes,” Kejriwal said.
The BJP said it was shocking that a chief minister would ask for public funds to run a government program. “With Kejriwal seeking private funds for yoga classes, he has once again shown that he is a total anarchist who has no respect for constitutional norms. The BJP has already made it clear that no one stops yoga classes. LG is out of the question to stall the classes. Kejriwal government should have done the paperwork and sought approval from the relevant authority, which they can do even now, but Kejriwal wants to run the government as it pleases,” Delhi BJP spokesman Praveen Shankar Kapoor said.
LG’s office has not commented on Kejriwal’s allegations.
Kejriwal called on people to enthusiastically participate and inform the salary government of the number of teachers they wish to sponsor. Maybe we can connect them directly to those teachers, or we can take those people’s checks and pay the yoga teachers,” the chief minister said.
Responding to a question about the corruption allegations made against Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain by scammer Sukesh Chandrasekhar, the Chief Minister said, “The BJP has made Sukesh Chandrasekhar its main militant. Their condition is so bad that they need someone imprisoned to be their main activist. And while he was in prison, this person also started using BJP language. He asked for a polygraph test to be done on me. He is basically trained to join the BJP.
BJP’s Kapoor said the Delhi CM should get his house in order first. “He should first put his house in order and clarify the allegations made by con artist Sukesh Chandrshekhar against the leaders of the AAP. With one minister in court and another accused of excise fraud, the chief minister has no right to speak out against other parties,” he said.
