ROSSBURG, Ohio — The 600 Wingless Dwarfs at this year’s 24th Rumble in Fort Wayne presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales will again be under the sponsorship of the Workers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA).
New to sponsorship this year will be the LiUNA Achiever Award – a $250 bonus for the driver with the most points during the two-day event, December 30-31.
“Recently, our LiUNA General President, Terry O’Sullivan, reportedly said, ‘Let’s meet every challenge, seize every opportunity, overcome every setback, and win every battle,'” LiUNA Representative Gary Bretz said. “We see these same traits among the many 600 Wingless Midgets who move their racing program indoors each December and are proud to attach our name to their hunt.
“Their efforts will not go unnoticed. From qualifying to heats to the main event, points will be earned by riders and at the end of Saturday’s competition we will reward the rider with the most points with the LiUNA Achiever award.
Using the same basic setup they use all summer long on dirt tracks throughout the region, the unwinged LiUNA 600s shift their program inland to the six-mile concrete oval purpose-built inside the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum each December. .
Each night they are joined by midgets, 600 winged midgets, go-karts and quarter midgets in full race programs of qualifying, qualifying races and a main event. Justin Harper and Tyler Gunn toppled the veterans last year and are the defending winners in the 600 midget unwinged.
