New World Development and HKGSA Partner to Sponsor Annual Harbor Run

New World Development and Hong Kong China Swimming Association (HKGSA) have teamed up to sponsor the annual Harbor Run.

More than 1,200 swimmers participated in the New World Harbor Race on October 23, according to SCMP. The swimmers started from the public jetty at Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai and finished at Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui in a one-kilometre race that was introduced last year.

Organized by the Hong Kong China Swimming Association, the first major outdoor sporting event this year attracted 100 swimmers from the racing group and 1,100 swimmers from the leisure group in four batches, after a trial run to limit participants to 1,500 .

The race also welcomed Siobhan Haughey, two-time Tokyo Olympics silver medalist and former Hong Kong swim team member Kevin Chu, as an ambassador to inject a positive vibe into the city and promote a sports culture.

With the theme “Empower Happy Waves for All”, this year’s competition aimed to inspire swimmers to share their passion with friends and sports enthusiasts across all mediums, despite the ongoing pandemic. The race was also sponsored and fully supported by FTLife, this year’s sole insurance sponsor.

In addition, the organizer has provided a donation option on this year’s entry form. Swimmers can choose to donate HK$100 for charity upon registration. All charity proceeds will be collected by the HKGSA and then donated to Share for Good, a local community giving platform. Platform partner Yan Chai Hospital will procure and distribute appropriate supplies to the needy through 60 nonprofit organizations.

“We would like to express our gratitude to New World Development for their tireless sponsorship over the years, and to relevant government departments and other organizations for their support and cooperation, without which we would not be able to organize the New World Harbor Race. ,” said HKGSA President Ronnie Wong. “In addition to providing swimmers with the opportunity to come together and compete, we also want the New World Harbor Race to provide residents across the city with the opportunity to experience the happiness and vitality of swimming”,

Sitt Nam Hoi, Executive Director of New World Development, said, “We have always made every effort to support local sports development. The New World Harbor Race has a long history of bringing happiness to the public to enjoy Hong Kong’s beautiful Victoria Harbour, and this year is no different. This year’s race is the second time it has been held during the pandemic. We hope to share the joy and vitality of the New World Harbor Race with all citizens.
