Maynard Family Racing’s “Giving A Car” season-ending campaign kicks off this weekend at the NHRA Auto Club Finals in Pomona, with Tony “the Sarge” Schumacher piloting the A Soldier’s Child Top dragster. Fuel.

The team showcased the American Mobility Project at the last race on tour in Las Vegas two weeks ago, and in this weekend’s season finale, JCM is looking forward to wearing the colors of another organization. Tennessee-based nonprofit. Fielding the A Soldier’s Child (ASC) dragster, JCM will participate in the race to raise funds and awareness for the national organization that aims to serve the children of fallen service members who have lost their lives on active duty.

Joe and Cathi Maynard, team owners and residents of Clarksville, Tennessee, have been strong CSA supporters since 2008. Among their many contributions to the Smyrna, Tennessee-based group is their involvement in the Banquet CSA annual. For the past 12 years, the Maynard family business, ECHO Power Engineering, has been the presenting sponsor of the banquet, the organization’s largest annual fundraiser. At the 2022 event held earlier this year, over $230,000 was raised for ASC. Schumacher and Funny Car racer Ron Capps attended the event as guests of the Maynards, and each donated NHRA experiential packages to the event’s live auction, which helped efforts fundraiser of the evening.

“We’ve been involved in A Soldier’s Child from almost day one. Our company, ECHO Power Engineering, was one of their organization’s first major sponsors, and we are proud to have continued to support their worthy cause for all these years, and now combine that with our love of NHRA Drag Racing,” Joe Maynard said in May after the event.

“A Soldier’s Child allows families who have suffered great hardship to experience some joy in an otherwise dark time. Our American Mobility Project campaign during the Las Vegas race was a huge success, and we can’t wait for A Soldier’s Child to have the same experience where they can be exposed to otherwise new audiences on one of the biggest stages in the world. NHRA,” Maynard added after Schumacher’s semifinal at the NHRA Nevada Nationals. “ASC does great work, like helping send kids to summer camps and providing scholarships. They will also provide birthday and holiday gifts to several thousand children this year. It’s a great cause, and we’re so glad they can share the spotlight at the NHRA Finals this weekend, especially since it’s Veterans Day weekend.

In addition to running an ASC car at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, JCM will welcome a Gold Star family to the track on Sunday. Prior to the start of eliminations, the family will be recognized in the team’s hospitality pavilion and their late father, SGT Troy James Harris, USMC, will be honored. Afterwards, Tyrian, the son of the family, will enjoy a special pitside party to celebrate his eighth birthday.

“Caring for the widows and orphaned children of our fallen heroes is our American debt to pay,” said Daryl Mack, Founder/Executive Director, ASC. “A Soldier’s Child Foundation is grateful to the Maynards for this opportunity, and to his fans for their support.”

“It will be an honor to represent A Soldier’s Child on Veterans Day weekend at one of our biggest races of the year,” said 11th-placed Schumacher, who will attempt to qualify for the Top 10 in the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series. From attending the CSA banquet earlier this year to hosting a Gold Star family at our Topeka run, I have seen how this organization benefits the families of fallen soldiers in our country ; it really is something special. At our last race in Vegas, we made it to the semis, and we’re looking to go one step further this weekend and close out the year with another win while standing up for a great cause.

Aboard the DSR Performance-powered A Soldier’s Child Top Fuel dragster, Schumacher will begin his quest for a seventh Pomona triumph when qualifying for the NHRA Finals kicks off at 1:00 p.m. PT on Friday, November 11.
