SCARBOROUGH – It’s that time of year, school is back in session. The GRACE Project collects backpacks and essential school supplies for children who need them most.
Project GRACE is gearing up to lend a hand to ensure children have school supplies at home as well as at school. They ask for backpacks, pencils, pens, erasers, markers and glue. There is a printable list on their website for each grade level, K-12.
Donation boxes are spread around the city. Don’t feel like shopping? Those looking to sponsor a child’s backpack can donate through the GRACE Project website at www.projectgracemaine.org
To make sure students don’t go hungry, in August the GRACE Project organized its school snack drive by collecting donations curbside. They asked for PB&J non-perishable food, granola bars, fruit cups, juice boxes, bags and grocery gift cards of any amount to help families prepare for the Back to School.
According to their website, Project GRACE’s mission is to “enhance the lives of our neighbors in Scarborough by identifying both those in need and those willing to share their gifts, and by coordinating the exchange of compassionate and confidential manner. The GRACE Project (Granting Resources and Assistance through Community Effort) is a Scarborough non-profit voluntary organization (providing) direct services, encouraging community initiatives, leading collaborative solutions, bringing together stakeholders and agents of change.
