Carnival racing day for the Sambadrome

Race spectators will enjoy a full day of entertainment for the whole family, including live pre- and post-race performances, local food offerings and the chance to meet the Formula E drivers. All grandstands will be at heart of the action as the race begins at the Sambadrome.

Twenty-two drivers from 11 teams will race on an exciting new track layout at the Sambadrome designed to encourage high-speed action but with minimal impact on daily traffic caused by construction.

The race will take place just a month after Sao Paulo’s famous carnival was held at the Sambadrome and will see one of the city’s biggest outdoor venues revitalized to host Formula E.

“We look forward to racing in the bustling city of Sao Paulo, thanks to the help and vision of the Sao Paulo City Council,” said Alberto Longo, co-founder and Formula E championship director. “Together, we will bring a motorsport carnival electric car to Sao Paulo where we will showcase the pinnacle of electric racing and innovation – our Gen3 car – on local streets and the infamous Sambadrome for passionate Brazilian fans.”

Beatriz Sanchez, Head of Region Americas and Board Member of Bank Julius Baer & Co. Ltd, said: “Eight years ago, Julius Baer recognized the potential of Formula E and decided to invest in the development of the racing series.

“Together we have made Formula E one of the most important motorsport series in the world and a successful test bed for innovations advancing the future of mobility. We strongly believe that here in Brazil perhaps more than anywhere else – in a country whose flair for racing and motorsport is legendary – the racing series and its messages will command wide attention.”
