The Newcastle 500 will have a new naming rights sponsor for its return to the Repco Supercars Championship.

Thrifty Car Rental has been announced as the title sponsor of the 2023 event, as well as on a two-year deal to be Supercars’ Official Car Rental Partner.

Thus, the inaugural round of the Gen3 era will be known as the Thrifty Newcastle 500.

Last hosting Supercars action in 2019, Newcastle Street Circuit will host the competition debut of the Gen3 Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro from March 10-12.

It will come about six weeks later the first round of team testing of the new cars.

Supercars CEO Shane Howard welcomed the signing of the deal with Thrifty.

“Having an internationally recognized brand like Thrifty on board as a naming rights partner for one of our signature events is great news ahead of our 2023 championship,” he said.

Thrifty Vice Chairman Eoin MacNeill added: “We are delighted to partner with Australasia’s premier touring car category, the Repco Supercars Championship, on this new multi-year deal.

“Supercars has a national footprint and we are excited to work with them to deliver world-class events starting in 2023 when we welcome the Gen3 Mustang and Camaro to the grid.

“We look forward to taking part in next year’s Championship opening event on the streets of Newcastle as the event’s new naming rights partner.”
