U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwit to Co-Sponsor Unite Against Hate Event in Northern Idaho

COEUR D’ALENE β€” U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwit with the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, Kootenai County Human Relations Task Force, DOJ Community Relations Department, and the FBI are hosting a United Against Hate meeting on Nov. 17 at Coeur d’Alene Casino in Worley, Idaho. The event is free and open to the public. The registration link is here: eventbrite.com/e/united-against-hate-tickets-451742934277.

Unite Against Hate is an initiative launched by the Department of Justice that aims to improve efforts to address hate crimes and incidents through relationship building at the grassroots level. Through this endeavor, the Bureau seeks to build and strengthen trust and partnerships between law enforcement, community leaders and residents.

β€œIn my view, this initiative is particularly timely for Idaho, as we have experienced a series of disturbing hate incidents across the state over the past few years,” U.S. Attorney Hurwit said. “As Attorney General Garland has said, now is the time to take a comprehensive approach to combating unlawful hate.”

The November 17 event will feature presentations from prosecutors on hate crimes laws and reporting mechanisms, as well as speakers who will share their courageous experiences in responding to hate.

“I look forward to meeting community members and hearing different perspectives on how we can work together to unite our community in the fight against unlawful hate,” U.S. Attorney Hurwit said. “And I’m deeply honored to join our co-sponsors in prioritizing this critical mission.”
