Sponsor a child

Winchester Channel sets trick or spell time

The City of Canal Winchester held its Beggar’s Night Trick-or-Treat activities from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Halloween Day, October 31.

Immediately following the trick-or-treat, VFW Post 10523 will host a Halloween party at the Community Center, located at 45 E. Waterloo Street. The free, family-friendly party will include a costume contest, magic show and goodie bags for all. Canal Winchester Human Services will help sponsor entertainment for the evening.

Although faking or processing can be a lot of fun, general precautions should be taken. Here are some basic safety tips to follow:

  • Ask an adult to accompany the children while they make sweets or treats.
  • Only let children visit the homes of people they know who have turned on an outdoor light to welcome cheaters.
  • Inspect all candies before eating them and discard any open or suspicious candies.
  • Tell the children to walk instead of run and to look both ways before crossing the street.
  • Encourage children to wear reflective costumes or add glow sticks to their costumes to make them more visible to motorists.
  • Pay close attention to children crossing the street if they are driving during or just before or after treat times.

Trick-or-treat will take place rain or shine. Parents are asked to use discretion when allowing children to participate.
